Not a McMansion
The owners of this Atherton estate home wanted something unusual — they did not want to knock down their very comfortable, single story ranch house and build an ostentatious ‘McMansion’ in its place. They liked the convenience of a single floor with its connection to the outdoors, and didn’t feel a need to overawe the neighborhood. They did want an updated plan with a bit more elegant style and just a bit more street presence. Our design included a tall family room whose ridge pokes up above the existing profile, a redesigned kitchen and master suite, and a new shingle style skin.
