I’ve had a few people ask why we haven’t blogged in a weeks. Well, we’ve been busy with two momentous family events! We are so proud of our children and had to share!
First, our daughter Elisa graduated from MIT with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences with a minor in math! Her research and career path are focused on climate change and the oceans. She’s currently on board the Schmidt Ocean Institute research yacht with her thesis adviser Dr. Andrew Babbin and the fantastic Bablab sampling and testing waters in the Pacific Ocean for nitrous oxide.
This fall she’s off to Paris to continue her research through MISTI (MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives program) at LOCEAN at the Pierre and Marie Curie Institute. She also hopes to find an outlet for her opera and musical theater skills!
And just this Saturday, our son graduated from Design Tech High School, also with honors, as part of the founding class for this new public charter school. He is off to Brown University in the fall to study some combination of electrical and mechanical engineering, computer science and management. FIRST Robotics programs have been a key inspiration. With David, our family started two teams, in middle school the Awkward Turtles (regional award winner for their research project on mesh networks for emergency response communications after a natural disaster) and in high school the FRC team 5940, B.R.E.A.D., which won the rookie all-star award at the Silicon Valley Regional tournament in 2016.
We are most proud of their kind, compassionate hearts that want to work to make the world a better place!
